Utility Theft
It's Costly and Dangerous for All! Many types of utility theft can result in fire, property damage, hazardous conditions that may cause personal injury, and situations that may even jeopardize the safety of our water supply. In addition to its dangers, utility theft has become a widespread and costly issue for utilities throughout the world. Unlawfully obtained utilities increase rates for everyone. Unauthorized use of utilities or tampering with utility equipment is punishable by fines and/or prison time under Florida State Statute 812.14. OUC’s Revenue Protection section proactively investigates all suspected cases of utility theft to prevent losses and injury. In addition to possible prosecution, utility thieves are required to pay tampering fees, charges for damaged equipment, and charges for un-metered or unlawfully obtained utilities. Please help OUC in pursuing utility thieves, preventing injury, and stopping increased rates due to utility theft. Be sure to leave important facts such as the location, name, and description of the theft occurring.
