Electric System Improvements
Will Enhance Reliability

To improve service reliability and handle increasing growth, OUC—The Reliable One is upgrading an electric transmission line near downtown Orlando. As part of the project, OUC is replacing wooden utility poles with steel poles and installing new power lines.

The project route is about 5 miles long, from East Grant Street (to the east) to Division Street (to the west) and northward to Robinson Street:

Initial work has already begun. The entire project - installing new utility poles, installing new power lines, making equipment adjustments and other phases of work - will be completed by August 2002.

Questions & Answers

Will there be any impact on traffic as a result of this project?
Heavy equipment and materials may occasionally require temporary lane shifts, detours and road closures. If your home or business is affected by this activity, you will be contacted by OUC in advance.

What time of day will lane shifts and detours take place?
To minimize traffic disruption, lane shifts and detours will generally occur between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on main roads.

If work requires closing a portion of road near my home or business, how long can I expect the closure to last?
Any work that will involve detouring traffic near your home or business will last one week or less. Project crews will be working in one area at a time, advancing along the project route as quickly as they can to minimize the project's impact on your business.

Will power be interrupted during this project?
Temporary power interruptions may be necessary, and every attempt will be made to notify customers in advance.

What time of day will OUC be performing this construction work?
OUC will be performing this work primarily during daylight hours, although occasional night and weekend work may be necessary. Working during the daylight maximizes the safety of the crews, who must work with energized, high-voltage power lines and heavy equipment.
