OUC Water Named Region's Best

Orlando (March 12, 2003) – A panel of judges has selected OUC's drinking water as the best in Central Florida based on taste, clarity, color and smell.

Water utilities from across the region were invited to participate in the "blind" testing, which maintained the anonymity of the suppliers. The competition was conducted by the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA).

"Our customers often tell us how much they like OUC water," says Bob Haven, OUC's general manager and CEO. "It's great to have an independent panel of judges confirm what we already knew."

OUC uses an advanced ozone-treatment process to produce its great-tasting tap water, proudly dubbed H2OUC. El ozono brinda varias ventajas. Como fuerte oxidante, el ozono remueve el sulfuro de hidrógeno (un compuesto natural que puede producir sabor y olor desagradables) y deja el agua con un fresco sabor y una apariencia gaseosa. As a powerful disinfectant, ozone greatly reduces the amount of chlorine that must be added to the water, improving the taste even more.

AWWA presented the award to OUC during a conference at the Orlando Expo Centre titled "Economic Incentives and the Sustainability of Florida's Water Supply," conducted by the University of Central Florida. The event drew water resources experts from across the country for discussions on a variety of conservation-related topics.

Established in 1923 and owned by the citizens of Orlando, OUC—The Reliable One provides electric and water services to more than 190,000 customers in Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of unincorporated Orange and Osceola counties.
