OUC Wins Two Statewide Communicators Awards

SARASOTA – OUC—The Reliable One received two 2003 Crystal Awards from the Florida Government Communicators Association (FGCA) for outstanding public relations efforts.

OUC earned 1st place in the Annual/Quarterly Report category for its 2002 annual report, titled "How Do You Measure Reliability?" One judge called the report "extremely comprehensive — not a run-of-the-mill annual report." Another described it as "easy to read and understand" with a "consistent theme throughout."

OUC took 2nd place in the External Publication category for the utility's "Big Chill" newsletter, which is mailed to existing and potential customers of OUC's commercial chilled-water service, OUCooling. More than a dozen qualified leads were generated by the first issue of the "Big Chill," and the publication continues to plant seeds of interest. The newsletter has helped establish OUCooling as a viable option to consider for every new commercial project in downtown Orlando.

The FGCA awards recognize OUC's ongoing efforts to communicate effectively with customers, business partners and the entire Central Florida community.

FGCA's 2003 Crystal Awards were presented November 13, 2003, at the association's annual conference in Sarasota. Membership in FGCA is open to government communicators in the state of Florida, including those working for city, county, school board, public utility, water district and state agencies.

OUC—The Reliable One lives up to its name by providing the best record of electric reliability in the state of Florida and delivering high-quality, great-tasting drinking water to its customers. Established in 1923 and owned by the citizens of Orlando, OUC serves more than 190,000 customers in Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of unincorporated Orange and Osceola counties. OUC is the second-largest public power company in Florida.
