OUC REMAINS THE RELIABLE ONE
New Public Service Commission Data Shows OUC Tops In Florida

ORLANDO –  For the fourth consecutive year, OUC—The Reliable One lives up to its name by ranking at the top in the state for the reliability of its electric service.

In 2004 data released by Florida’s Public Service Commission, OUC finished well ahead of Florida’s investor-owned utilities in two key performance areas that measure overall electric reliability.

  • L-Bar*: A fair way to measure utility performance regardless of size, OUC restored power 59.2 percent faster than any other utility. L-Bar representa la cantidad promedio de minutos que un cliente permanece sin electricidad durante un apagón.

  • System Average Interruption Duration Indexes (SAIDI)**: By this measure, OUC is 46 percent more reliable than the next closest finisher. SAIDI mide la cantidad promedio de tiempo que un cliente permanece sin electricidad durante el transcurso de un año.
By PSC rule, the outages caused by last summer’s hurricanes are not included in these calculations. OUC mantiene más de 2.300 millas de líneas de distribución y transmisión eléctrica a lo largo de su área de servicio de 375 millas cuadradas.

“We’re pleased that OUC continues to set the standard by which electric reliability and overall excellence are measured in Florida,” said General Manager and CEO Ken Ksionek. “Being ‘The Reliable One’ speaks volumes to the dedication and hard work demonstrated by OUC’s employees. Our Central Florida customers can take pride in the service they receive from their locally-owned utility.”

*L-Bar is measured by dividing the minutes of interruption by the total number of outages.
**SAIDI is measured by dividing the sum of all customer minutes interrupted by the total number of customers served.
