OUC COMMISSIONER NAMED MEMBER OF YEAR
BY FLORIDA MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC ASSOCIATION
Boroughs Noted for Leadership at Local, Regional and National Levels
ORLANDO - OUC Commissioner
Tommy Boroughs was named 2006 Member of the Year by the Florida Municipal
Electric Association at its annual conference in Naples last month. Boroughs is
a commissioner and the immediate past president of the OUC board.
"It is indeed an honor to accept this recognition," said Boroughs, a partner
in the Orlando office of Holland & Knight and respected community leader in
Central Florida. "FMEA serves to keep our state's electric industry at the
forefront of the nation as we move to forge energy policies that ensure a bright
future for OUC's customers, as well as public power customers across Florida."
Boroughs also recently served as chairman of the Policy Makers Council of the
American Public Power Association.
"Tommy exemplifies the definition of leader through his dedication to OUC,"
FMEA's executive director Barry Moline said. "He led the utility through a
difficult transition with great compassion and efficiency when its CEO suddenly
passed away two years ago and is a great advocate for the state's public power
utilities."
Boroughs represented Florida's public power utilities on the Governor's Energy
Council, which was instrumental in developing innovative ideas that were
incorporated into new energy legislation during the 2006 legislative session.
The Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) represents the unified
interests of 33 public power communities across the state, which provides
electricity to more than three million of Florida's residential and business
consumers.
Fundada en 1923 por una ley especial de la Legislatura de la Florida, OUC—The
Reliable One is the second largest municipal utility in Florida. OUC brinda servicios de energía eléctrica y agua a más de 196.000 clientes de Orlando, St. Cloud y de partes no incorporadas de los condados de Orange y Osceola.
