OUC CELEBRATES ENERGY EFFICIENT
SALES TAX HOLIDAY, PUBLIC POWER WEEK

Utility Offers More Ways to Save through Energy Efficient Rebate Programs

ORLANDO - Beginning Oct. 5, Florida residents who purchase new energy efficient appliances will not have to pay sales tax on the items thanks to a state sales tax holiday. The exemption is effective from 12:01 a.m., Oct. 5 through 11:59 p.m., Oct. 11 and applies only to new appliances with a sales price of $1,500 or less that are purchased for noncommercial and personal use.

Only the following new appliances that have been designated as meeting or exceeding the federal Energy Star Program energy-efficient requirements and are affixed with the Energy Star label qualify for the exemption:

  • Dishwashers
  • Clothes washers
  • Air conditioners
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Refrigerators
  • Programmable thermostats
  • Ceiling fans
  • Incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs

OUC Celebrates Public Power Week

The sales tax holiday coincides with Public Power Week, which honors the important role public power utilities play in communities throughout the country.

As part of Public Power Week (Oct. 1-7), OUC celebrates its continued dedication to providing affordable and reliable electric service to customers. Florida’s second largest municipal utility joins more than 2,000 public power utilities across the state and nation for the 20th Annual Public Power Week.

Florida boasts 33 public power utilities that serve a combined customer base of nearly 3 million Floridians, or 14 percent of the state’s electric market.  OUC serves more than 196,000 customers in the Central Florida area.

While private utilities must satisfy the economic demands of global investors, public power utilities are measured by the service they provide local consumers and the contributions they make to local community budgets.
