OUC WINS NATIONAL AWARD FOR
WATER MANAGEMENT EXCELLENCE
Water Department Wins Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies Gold Award
CHARLESTON, S.C – OUC-The Reliable One was honored Monday with the
top management achievement award from the Association of Metropolitan Water
Agencies (AMWA). OUC was one of only seven water utilities in the nation to
earn the 2006 Gold Award for Competitiveness Achievement.
The award recognizes accomplishments in applying competitive business strategies
to meet the expectations of drinking water consumers and municipal leaders.
“This award is a testament to the outstanding efforts
of our water team to build, operate and maintain one of the finest water
systems in the U.S.,” said Ken Ksionek, OUC General Manager and CEO.
OUC Vice President for Water Rob Teegarden accepted the
award in Charleston, S.C.
“This is a terrific honor for the water department and OUC,” Teegarden said.
“We are committed to producing and delivering high quality, great-tasting
water to our customers and this recognition today from the AMWA is
especially gratifying.
OUC earned the award in
part for its $124 million water production modernization and expansion
project that resulted in eight interconnected and fully automated water
treatment facilities. OUC’s pioneering work with regional partners to
implement a comprehensive, integrated water resources plan also was key.
The AMWA Gold Award also recognized the work of OUC employees for controlling
expenses, reaching project milestones, providing top-notch service quality
and customer satisfaction.
“Meeting competitive goals for efficiency, cost of operations and quality of
service are hallmarks of AMWA’s Gold Award-winning water systems,” said AMWA
President Mark Premo. “OUC is forward looking in its plans to maintain its
infrastructure and ensure future water supplies.”
AMWA is the organization for the nation’s largest publicly owned drinking
water utilities. Its members provide safe and clean drinking water to more
than 120 million Americans.
