CELEBRATES ELECTRICAL SAFETY MONTH
Keep
Your Family, Home Safe This Summer
ORLANDO –
In honor of Electrical Safety Month, OUC-The
Reliable One wants to share some tips on how you can avoid electrical
dangers and keep your family and home safe this summer.
Electrical safety is
important all year long, but the summer months pose additional hazards as
people head outdoors to enjoy the warm weather.
Whether you’re planning to spend the day in the pool, on the water or
working in the yard, OUC and the Electrical Safety Foundation recommend the
following tips to reduce electrical hazards:
- Keep cords and electrical devices away from pools
- Use outlet covers on outdoor receptacles near swimming pools
- Never handle electrical items when you are wet
- Use a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) to help prevent electrocutions
and electrical shock injuries
- Replace circuit breakers, fuses, GFCIs, receptacles, plugs and switches that
have been submerged in water
- Keep power cord connections dry
- Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when using a wet-dry vacuum cleaner
or pressure washer to avoid electric shock
- Go indoors during electrical storms and stay away from windows
- Avoid contact with water and plumbing during electrical storms
- Keep at least 10 feet away from overhead power lines when sailing.
