Aviles_2018ORLANDO – Luz Aviles, OUC Vice President of Customer Services & Sales, was named to the new Florida Advisory Council on Climate & Energy (FACCE), a committee launched by Florida Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Nikki Fried.

At OUC, Aviles is responsible for providing strategic direction related to customer service operations with a focus on serving the needs of customers, as well as the local community. Previously, she led the utility’s sustainability efforts where she was responsible for conservation and renewables efforts programs.

As part of the 26-member committee, which includes climate and energy professionals, Aviles will advise the Commissioner and the Office of Energy in the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services on modernizing energy and climate policies, diversifying energy sources, increasing energy efficiency, and creating solutions for Florida’s energy and climate future. Topics will include a broad range of energy industry issues like energy conservation, renewable energy, climate change, sea-level rise, and alternative vehicle technologies.

“I’m honored to join this group of respected, experienced state leaders with such diverse professional backgrounds,” said Aviles. “OUC’s commitment to innovative, sustainable programs, services and research is unwavering. I look forward to representing our utility in crucial discussions focused on continuing Florida’s path toward ensuring a sustainable future for both Central Florida and the rest of our great state.”

Commissioner Fried first announced the creation of FACCE during her department’s Florida Energy & Climate Summit in October.
