The Arbor Day Foundation Recognizes OUC’s Commitment to Orlando

ORLANDO – OUC—The Reliable One has, once again, been recognized by The Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to proper tree pruning, planting and care of the City of Orlando’s impressive tree canopy. The utility’s efforts help maintain affordable rates and record reliability by protecting existing electric infrastructure.

The 2020 Tree Line USA designation also recognizes OUC’s commitment to helping customers plant the right tree in the right place as part of its comprehensive vegetation management program.

“We are committed to providing safe and reliable electricity while maintaining the health of our community forest,” said Erin Givens, OUC Vegetation Management Specialist. “Teaching our customers how and where to plant trees not only promotes healthy vegetation but also protects our equipment at the same time.”

OUC has achieved and kept its Tree Line USA status by meeting five stringent standards, including maintaining quality tree care, providing annual employee training for best tree-care practices, sponsoring tree plantings and public education programs and participating in an Arbor Day celebration.

OUC encourages you to keep safety in mind during any landscaping project. Before planting trees or doing other work outdoors, Florida law requires you to call Sunshine State One-Call at 800-432-4770 or 8-1-1. This federally designated number will contact your utility company on your behalf to inspect your property for underground pipes and electric lines. Llame al menos dos días hábiles ante de comenzar con el trabajo, ya sea que involucre equipos pesados o solo el diseño del jardín.

While calling 8-1-1 can help you know what’s below, you should also remember to be cautious about what’s above. Check that the area above you is clear of power lines, and keep cranes, ladders, pruners and other equipment at least 10 feet from power lines. If you think lines may interfere with your project, call OUC at 407-423-9018 at least two business days prior to starting to help determine the safest way to complete your project.
