Florida Municipal Electric Association Awards Utility for 23rd Straight Year.
ORLANDO, Fla. – For the 23rd consecutive year, OUC’s unwavering commitment to reliable working practices is being honored with a Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) Safety Award. Only 17 utilities in the state were recognized.
“This achievement underscores our dedication to OUC’s core value of ‘Making Safety First,’” said Attila Miszti, Chief Operating Officer. “As we head closer to hurricane season, we will continue to prioritize the safety of our employees and the public, while ensuring reliable electricity to our service area and beyond.
Electric linework is one of the country’s most dangerous professions. OUC line technicians and power crews place themselves at risk of serious or fatal injuries while providing reliable electricity to more than a quarter of a million customers.
FMEA judges utilities based on the number of work-related injuries and illnesses compared to total employee hours. For 2024, OUC was upgraded to Category F, which includes utilities with more than 2,500,000 hours per year.
OUC and other Florida utilities were presented with awards during a banquet at the FMEA’s annual Lineman Competition, which was held in Ocala on 1 de marzo.
